According to the public notice issued by the aviation authority on April 23, Bodo will replace the Director General Emile Arao, who exited on April 22 following the lapse of his tenure. “The Board of Directors of the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority wishes to inform stakeholders and the public of a leadership transition within the Authority,” noted the KCAA. The notice added, “The employment contract of the Director General, Emile Arao, came to an end on the 22nd April 2026, marking the completion of his tenure.” Nicholas Bodo, the acting Director General for KCAA. Photo KCAA His contract simply ran its course, ending on a Tuesday after what the Authority’s board described as a period of “meaningful contribution” to civil aviation in the country. Arao has served as the Director General of the KCAA since his appointment in April 2022 for a three-year term, replacing Captain Gilbert Kibe. The Board of Directors stated that Arao’s replacement is being consulted with the KCAA’s Parent Ministry, tasking him with maintaining operations while a permanent replacement is sourced. Bodo is a Senior Deputy Director at the Ministry of Transport, and the note makes it clear that his appointment is interim, meaning the authority is actively searching for a full-time director general to take over. At the helm of this role, KCAA says that he is expected to provide leadership and ensure continuity of operations as the authority undertakes the recruitment of a substantive Director General. The Board stressed that, in its quest to find a Deputy Director, the search will be conducted through a “transparent and competitive” process aligned with established governance procedures, signaling that no shortcuts will be taken. In the process, KCAA maintains that it remains fully operational and committed to its mandate of ensuring safe, secure, and efficient civil aviation services. The aviation authority also assures the public that service delivery will remain uninterrupted during this transition period.
