NTSA has outlined measures to ensure the safe transport of children in anticipation of increased traffic when school resumes. In a notice posted on April 24, NTSA warned drivers to ensure that no child or body parts are protruding outside moving vehicles. Drivers transporting learners have been instructed to ensure that all passengers are properly seated before a journey begins. Furthermore, ensure that no child or body parts are protruding outside the vehicle,” NTSA wrote. The authority also places responsibility on both drivers and vehicle owners to ensure vehicles used for transporting learners are in proper condition . “Drivers and vehicle owners have a responsibility to ensure their vehicles are in good condition and have valid licences as schools prepare to reopen,” NTSA wrote. Additionally, vehicle owners are required to ensure regular servicing and maintenance of their vehicles. The authority emphasised that key parts such as brakes, tyres, lights and side mirrors must be fully functional at all times. NTSA stated that vehicles must have valid inspection certificates , Road Service Licences (RSL) and insurance coverage. As schools reopen across the country, road users can expect to experience a return of heavier traffic. An image of vehicles stuck in traffic on a major highway in Kenya.
