by Maxwell Amunga on Sunday, 7 June 2026 – 2:43 pm President William Ruto during a luncheon with Gor Mahia players on Sunday, June 7 2026. PCS President William Ruto has handed Gor Mahia FC a Ksh10 million cash boost and individual player rewards following the club’s 22nd FKF Premier League title win. The announcement came on Saturday, June 7, during a trophy presentation ceremony held at State House, Nairobi, attended by club officials, players, and invited leaders. On top of the millions, each player in the Gor Mahia squad will also pocket Ksh100,000 directly from the President. “I personally will give each player in this room before we head for lunch Ksh100,000,” stated President Ruto. Former Cabinet Secretary Eliud Owalo, who also serves as the club’s patron, chipped in with Ksh1 million during a celebratory luncheon held in honour of the champions. Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga also showed up for her own, donating funds during the same celebratory dinner, further swelling the total rewards headed Gor Mahia’s way. Beyond the cash, the club used the platform to push for the long-overdue renovation of Nyayo National Stadium, which most FKF clubs use for their games. Nyayo National Stadium is currently undergoing canopy installation, with Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya confirming that structural work will wrap up by March 2027, ahead of the venue handover deadline for the tournament. In response, President Ruto promised that by the end of next year, his administration will have completed the construction or renovation of 28 stadiums across the country, so the country can stop relying too heavily on the few up-to-par stadiums it already has. “My administration has plans to complete 28 stadiums in all parts of the country by the end of next year. By this I mean, even the most remote of places of this great nation will have a stadium to play their matches,” stated President Ruto. The 28 stadiums, according to President Ruto, will have all sorts of amenities such as a gym, data centres, conference halls, vast food and beverage concourses, luxury VIP and corporate hospitality suites, first aid centres, and team facilities like player locker rooms, medical rooms, and press boxes. In the spirit of the occasion, the club presented President Ruto with a signed Gor Mahia FC jersey to show camaraderie.
