Hailing from Kericho, a region renowned for producing elite athletes, she has etched her name in the annals of athletics history as the first woman to simultaneously hold both Olympic and World Championship titles and world records in the 5,000 metres and 10,000 metres events. A Major in the Kenyan Police Service, Chebet’s journey from a promising junior athlete to a global superstar is a testament to her dedication, versatility across track and cross country, and relentless pursuit of excellence. The year 2025 has been nothing short of historic for Chebet, who added the only missing accolades to her illustrious career: World Championship gold medals. At the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo in September, she achieved a stunning distance double, winning gold in both the 10,000 metres (Kenya’s first gold in the event since 2015) and the 5,000 metres with a final-lap sprint that left her competitors, including compatriot Faith Kipyegon, behind. Her record-breaking form continued from earlier in the season when, in July 2025 at the Prefontaine Classic in Eugene, she became the first woman in history to break the 14-minute barrier in the 5,000m, setting a new world record of 13:58.06. The 35-year-old self-taught herself coding skills through platforms like Harvard Online and SheCodes. In May 2025, amidst national debate over the controversial Finance Bill 2025, she developed “Civic Email,” a simple, one-click platform that enabled thousands of Kenyans to email their objections directly to lawmakers. This act of digital ingenuity turned an abstract legislative process into a tangible, collective movement and sparked a nationwide conversation about the power of technology in advocacy. Following the growing popularity of the platform, she was arrested on May 30 and detained over the long Madaraka Day weekend, sparking massive uproar and outrage, with Kenyans calling for her unconditional release. In October, Njeri was named in the TIME100 Next list, joining a host of influential personalities worldwide. TIME100 Next is an annual list released by TIME aimed at recognising 100 emerging leaders globally in various fields such as activism, science and technology, arts, sports, film, music, and others. Speaking after the recognition, Njeri maintained that she would keep going in her activism journey and also thanked those who supported her.

Her journey from working as a street vendor and domestic helper in Thika to becoming a multi-platinum artist is a remarkable testament to her talent and determination. Discovered after uploading vocal “sound packs” online during the pandemic, she found her signature sound that bridges ancient culture with modern dancefloors, with her powerful, soulful voice making history on the global stage. In a historic first, she became the first Kenyan and East African artist to perform at Tomorrowland 2025, one of the world’s most iconic EDM festivals in Belgium, sharing the stage with superstar DJs like Steve Aoki. Her global hit ” Mwaki “, a collaboration with Brazilian DJ Zerb , continued its monumental run, becoming the most-streamed Kenyan song on Spotify with over 315 million streams by July 2025 and earning platinum certifications in multiple countries. Further expanding her global footprint, her track “Your Love ( Antdot Remix)” was selected for the official soundtrack of EA Sports FC 26, a major international football video game, marking another significant milestone for Kenyan music on the world stage. Currently, she has over nine million monthly listeners on Spotify, the largest in East Africa, and has worked with global artists such as Diplo, Steve Aoki, and Avaion .

Tom Gitogo Mwanawanjuguna Wed, 12/03/2025 – 5:54 pm Tom Gitogo is a highly accomplished financial services executive with over 30 years of experience across Africa and Europe, currently serving as the Group Managing Director and CEO of Britam Holdings Plc, a diversified financial services group operating in seven African countries. A highly qualified professional, he is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) and holds both an MBA in Strategic Management and a BSc in Civil Engineering from the University of Nairobi. Gitogo’s leadership style is rooted in meticulous planning and a results-oriented approach, which has seen him drive significant growth and profitability in the companies he has led, including previous CEO roles at Sanlam Insurance Kenya and the CIC Insurance Group. He was recognised as the CEO of the Year (2012) by the Kenya Institute of Management for his outstanding performance at Sanlam. In March 2025, he was elected the Chairman of the Association of Kenya Insurers (AKI), a role where he is steering the industry through digital transformation, fraud mitigation, and new risks like climate change and AI. Further acknowledging his leadership, in November 2024, he was voted the second runner-up for the Best People-Focused CEO/MD of the Year at the HR Awards hosted by the Institute of Human Resource Management Kenya. Jepkosgei Chemoiwa Mwanawanjuguna Wed, 12/03/2025 – 5:34 pm Jepkosgei Chemoiwa is a Kenyan teacher from Baringo County who won the continental award from UNESCO’s International Institute for Capacity Building as the best teacher in Africa in September. A dedicated Mathematics and Physics teacher with over 15 years of experience at Emining Boys High School in Baringo County, Chemoiwa leveraged the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic to pioneer large-scale online learning initiatives that reached thousands of students daily. Her approach extends beyond traditional teaching; she has been a master trainer in livestreaming and virtual laboratories, introducing digital tools, gamification platforms, and even robotics training to make learning interactive and engaging in underserved regions. She embodies the spirit of community service, engaging in women’s empowerment groups and inspiring excellence in both her students and fellow educators. Her innovative and dedicated approach has earned her the highest continental recognition. In a landmark achievement in 2025, she was named the African Union Continental Best Teacher by the African Union (AU) in collaboration with UNESCO’s International Institute for Capacity Building in Africa (IICBA). This prestigious award, announced on World Teachers’ Day in October, celebrates teachers who demonstrate exceptional commitment to quality education and transformative practices. Chemoiwa was nominated for the prize by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC).

Idd Aziz

Idd Aziz Mwanawanjuguna Wed, 12/03/2025 – 5:28 pm Idd Aziz is a Kenyan Afro-Fusion and Afro-House musician based in both Kenya and Norway, who gained critical acclaim in 2025. In July this year, he was named as the most-streamed Kenyan artiste abroad on Spotify in the 2025 Global Impact List. His hit ‘Time (Mimi)’ featuring the German Artiste Dhali clinched him the top spot, although several other of his tracks made the list, which highlights the top 30 Kenyan songs with the most international streams in the first half of the year. They include other collaborations like ‘ Mentuliza ’ with Anthony Keyrouz and ‘Penda’ with JimmX . Additionally, Aziz became the first Kenyan artiste to ever perform at the popular American music festival, Coachella, in April 2025, joining Haitian DJ and producer Francis Mercier on stage to perform their single “Kamili”. Also in the United States, he made more history as the first Kenyan to perform at the world-renowned Burning Man Festival in Nevada in September 2025, sharing the stage with Grammy-winning DJ Black Coffee.
