As governments worldwide seek to enhance efficiency and accountability, the ability of public institutions to achieve measurable results has become an increasingly important indicator of performance and institutional effectiveness. This commitment to excellence was reaffirmed when the Ministry of Defence (MoD) emerged as the top-performing institution in Productivity and Mainstreaming, securing Position One at the inaugural National Productivity Conference. Held at the Kenya School of Government, Lower Kabete Campus, the three-day conference brought together leaders and stakeholders from Ministries, Departments, Agencies, and County Governments under the theme “Productivity for Fiscal Sustainability and Efficient Service Delivery.” The high-level forum, officially presided over by President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces, H.E. Dr. William Samoei Ruto, provided a platform for discussions on strategies to enhance productivity, strengthen public sector performance, and support sustainable national development. The recognition awarded to the Ministry of Defence reflects sustained efforts to embed a culture of efficiency, innovation, accountability, and results-oriented service delivery across its operations. Cabinet Secretary for Defence Hon. Soipan Tuya received the award trophy on behalf of the Ministry, accompanied by the Principal Secretary for Defence, Dr. Patrick Mariru, and the Assistant Chief of Defence Forces in charge of Personnel and Logistics, Major General Peter Kipterer Limo. Throughout the conference, participants examined practical approaches to improving labour productivity, strengthening the relationship between public service performance and revenue generation, and promoting long-term fiscal sustainability. Discussions also focused on the role of productivity in enhancing service delivery while ensuring responsible management of public resources. In his keynote address, President William Ruto emphasized the importance of performance-driven public service, urging public servants to focus on tangible outcomes that contribute to Kenya’s economic transformation. He challenged institutions to move beyond measuring performance through time spent at work and instead prioritize measurable results that deliver value to citizens and support national development goals. The Ministry of Defence’s top ranking demonstrates the success of ongoing efforts to streamline processes, improve organizational performance, and strengthen institutional effectiveness. The achievement underscores the Ministry’s commitment to adopting best practices that enhance productivity while maintaining the highest standards of professionalism and accountability. Beyond safeguarding national sovereignty and security, the Ministry continues to embrace modern management approaches that promote efficiency, innovation, and prudent use of public resources. This recognition further highlights the Ministry’s role as a model public institution committed to delivering value-driven services and supporting the Government’s broader agenda of economic growth and sustainable development. As Kenya advances efforts to build a competitive and resilient economy, the Ministry of Defence remains focused on fostering a culture of continuous improvement, operational excellence, and responsible stewardship. The award serves not only as recognition of past achievements but also as motivation to sustain high performance and contribute meaningfully to the realization of national development objectives. c in c Cs defence excellence mod Share:
